Mahler 2nd Symphony
Spring Concert 2025
Monday April 7, 8:15 PM
The Concertgebouw
In collaboration with the Groot Concertkoor Amsterdam
Conductor: Jacob Slagter
Alt: Sophia Patsi
Soprano: Aylin Sezer
The Orchestra and the Great Concert Choir Amsterdam join forces under the inspiring leadership of Jacob Slagter. Together we will perform in the Concertgebouw with an evening-filling work: the second symphony by Gustav Mahler. The 'second' requires a fully occupied orchestra, with extra brass, extra bells, a full choir, a soprano and an alto soloist and a 'Fernorchester', a small extra orchestra, that plays outside the concert hall. Spectacle guaranteed!
Mahler 2
Gustav Mahler spent six years composing his second symphony. He set his sights high: the symphony is known as 'Auferstehung' (Resurrection) and is a colossal work about death, redemption and resurrection. Mahler takes us from a sad funeral march to a radiant victory over death.
