About Het Orkest Amsterdam
Het Orkest Amsterdam is an amateur symphony orchestra with passionate and experienced musicians. We rehearse every Tuesday evening in Amsterdam and perform three diverse concert programs annually, ranging from major symphonic works to modern compositions and film scores. We perform in venues such as De Duif, the Zuiderkerk, and the Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), the Geertekerk (Utrecht), and the MCO (Hilversum) .
Het Orkest Amsterdam has performed many major symphonic works by Mahler, Strauss, Beethoven, Brahms, Berlioz, Debussy, Sibelius, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, and Prokofiev. Modern compositions by John Adams, Gavin Bryars, Einojuhani Rautavaara, and Calliope Tsoupaki have also graced our music stands.
Het Orkest Amsterdam played for 22 years under the baton of Russian conductor Alexander Vakoulsky. In subsequent years, we performed under conductors such as Jussi Jaatinen, Gustavo Gimeno, and Joan Berkhemer.
Jacob Slagter has been our permanent conductor since 2014. We're thrilled that Jacob, with his drive, inspiration, and humor, provides our orchestra with a wonderful evening every Tuesday evening, sharing his invaluable experience with us.
In recent years, we've toured internationally to China, the Czech Republic, Italy, France, Poland, Austria, and Slovakia. Our tours always combine music, culture, and a lot of fun.
