Music that appeals to the imagination

Under the passionate leadership of guest conductor Joan Berkhemer, we start our concert with a short dazzling overture and continue with well-known Italian film music. Together with mezzo-soprano Stephanie Firnkes and the Student Choir Amsterdam we conclude with very impressive and evocative Russian film music.

The overture 'Der Beherrscher der Geister' by Carl Maria von Weber about a mountain spirit who falls in love and wants to get married.

Majestic music by Nino Rota for the film 'Il Gattopardo' by Luchino Visconti about the Italian revolution in the nineteenth century.

Impressive music by Sergei Prokofiev for Sergei Eisenstein's film 'Alexander Nevsky' about the Russian monarch and his battles.
